ISSUES WITH THE DEVELOPMENTAL APPROVAL PROCESS?
LOCAL LEVEL

The CHBA is an advocate on behalf of members, actively working to elect pro-housing, pro-building candidates to public office. We are continuously working with local governments to control costly regulations that affect homebuilders and remodelers, including increases in fees, ordinances and other potentially damaging laws.
Local CHBA lobbyists are also working diligently to protect the building industry from issues such as impact fees and fight for affordable housing. Meetings are held bi-monthly with local building officials every other month which members are invited to.
In conjunction with the Home Builders Association of South Carolina (HBASC) and National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), our lobbyists work to protect the building industry at the state and national level as well.

NATIONAL LEVEL

The NAHB advocates on behalf of associations nationwide in order to achieve the following:
-
End the Housing Production Credit Crisis
-
Resolve Foreclosure and Appraisal Problems
-
Protect the Mortgage Interest Deduction
-
Maintain Federal Support for Housing Finance System
-
Preserve Affordable Down-Payments and Mortgages
-
Recognize Housing’s Important Role to the Economy
-
Defend the Low Income Housing Tax Credit

STATE LEVEL

The HBASC works to create a fair and predictable regulatory environment for the homebuilding and development industry in South Carolina. Efforts have resulted in landmark legislative successes and regulatory actions, which have created a better, more predictable business environment for your company.
The HBASC works with members and committees to identify, assess and respond to policies or proposals that impact homebuilders’ ability to offer affordable housing. Efforts have been successful on a range of issues including workers’ comp, ethics reform, coastal insurance, DOT reform and septic tanks.

TAKE ACTION

Connect housing with Government and take action on current and ongoing issues. Send letters to Members of Congress and encourage others to do so as well. Messages like these really do make a difference.
